What will you learn?

Below we have detailed what you will learn as you progress with your drumming. Our gifted teachers will help you reach these musical goals, and to inspire you to reach for new goals that you may never have thought possible.

Point 1 of what will I learn

Hand & Foot Techniques

Point 2 of what will I learn.

Musicianship & Vocabulary

Hand techniques include German, French and Moeller. Foot techniques include the slide technique and heel down technique. We also emphasise the importance of maintaining good posture.

Point 3 of what will I learn

Independence & Coordination

Independence is the art of playing separate rhythms with each of our different limbs. Coordination is how we play these patterns in a fluid way. Developing our Independence and Coordination allows us more freedom behind the drum kit.

Musicianship is the ability to use your knowledge, skill and artistic sensitivity during music performance. Vocabulary is the understanding of grooves and stickings that make each genre unique.

Point 4 of what will I learn

Sight-Reading & Transcribing

Sight-Reading is the ability to read and speak out (play) drum notation in real time. Transcribing is how we take a part that we hear aurally, and notate it down using either pen and paper or software.

You will come away with a greater appreciation and awareness of 21st century music. Music holds a lot of power over our culture. In 2017, the average American spent slightly more than 32 hours a week listening to music, up 5.5 hours over the previous year.

Playing a musical instrument improves our academic performance. Scientists say that children who are exposed to music, or those who play an instrument, do better in school than those who don't. Adults also benefit from learning to play an instrument because it helps the mind to be alert and remain active, helping to sharpen the memory.

Point 3 of how will I benefit

Academic Performance

Playing an instrument can be a great way to enhance a child's social skills.  It’s very common for people to gain lifelong friendships through musical activities.

For people who have learned to play an instrument, music offers a creative escape, a path for artistic expression and emotional release. This kind of release has been proven to relieve stress and can be a great form of therapy.
